In
order for all Federal and Military employees to have access to the
Federal Telecommunications System, the Federal Government established
FRS. The traditional State Telecommunications Relay Services uses
commercial lines therefore not allowing Federal and Military employees
to call using the FTS2001 government network. All Federal and Military
employees are required and instructed to use the FTS2001 network.
Federal Relay allows Federal and Military employees who are deaf,
hard-of-hearing, deaf-blind and/or have speech disabilities to make
telephone calls through the FTS2001 network. This includes members
of the general public who are seeking information from Federal and
Military agencies and Federal/Military employees who as an official
part of the government business must contact the general public
who themselves need to access other Federal Government resources.
